This comic contains a cameo from my own Jedi Exile - or at least his face. It turns out that to save time, the programmers used the faces of Player Characters for various crowd scenes in Kotor II, such as this one on Onderon, or in the evil cave that Runt and Candy skipped because it was scary.

I remember first choosing my character's face at the beginning of the game, and being frustrated that there weren't any heads that looked like my own. Suddenly, and for the first time, it occured to me that I didn't actually have to Role Play as myself! Shock! As such Canaan Aphettu was born, my very favourite character I've ever role played - although considering I now use his name as one of my on-screen handles, I suppose he ended up becoming me anyway!

So this comic is dedicated to all those who have accidentally become their avatars, at least in an online forum sense. Give yourselves a pat on the back (just the kind of existential out-of-body action needed to congratulate another, fantasy part of your consciousness!)

when you play a video game, your purpose is not to be yourself, but to be somenone else, different from you.

I tend to play myself the first playthrough, to see what kind of impact I'd have in the universe. This usually means I play the goody two shoes, right up to the point where the fighting starts. In Kotor, this manifested as a light side character using force lightning and every other dark side power whenever I could, and in Mass Effect 2, I would take every Renegade option that reduced my opponents numbers (ie shooting crates so they fall on people, shooting a gas main so it explodes, selecting the "attack them" option as soon as it shows up, etc...). This results in a surprisingly low renegade shift.
