Can I get a show of hands...
So I'm working on the Totally Kotor book, which'll be up for sale probably early next year, and I just wanted to know, out of interest, how many people would be interested in buying it. I just want a rough figure so I know what my printing options are.

If you're interested, please comment saying so, or if you email me at I can send you a message when it's ready.

The irony!!!!

I would probably buy a Totally KOTOR book. This stuff is golden. Would it be the entire series?

kotor, September 20th, 2010, 8:11 am

Not only will it be the entire series, but it'll be the entire series, digitally remastered. I'm drawing backgrounds for the first three hundred comics that don't have them.

It's taking a while.

digitaly remastered makes it sound awesome and proffesional :P

but I would buy one. Any ideas on a price or would it be decided by the publisher?

Possible problem.

Even though its a parody of Star Wars KOTOR I and II...its still copyrighted by Lucasarts and Bioware and obsidion.

So you could possibly get in trouble for selling it.

Just pointing it out.

Copyright issues...
Since it's a parody, technically it's protected under "fair use" clauses in copyright laws... but to make money off of it is dicey.

You might need to contact someone in LucasArts to make sure they know about the book, and they might require royalties.

They might be totally cool with it, though- I've seen tons of parody work of Star Wars stuff on bookshelves.

I think you guys are giving me a bit too much credit. This isn't some sprawling epic of amazingness, and I'm not launching an international campaign or anything. I'm printing a copy of the book because I'd like one, and I'm offering to print one for anyone else who wants one, so long as you're willing to pay. I'm still undecided as to whether or not I'll even bother with making a profit.

As I understand it, the parody point is true - it's fair use for me to make fun of the videogames, even commercially. But that won't necessarily stop Lucasfilm, who are usually pretty aggressive with this kind of thing. If I get a cease and desist, I'll of course stop any printing projects immediately - but I doubt whether they'd even consider me worth their time, and I'm not going to shy away from printing something I've worked so hard on, on the off chance that someone considers printing probably no more than ten or twenty books is a threat to their brand.

I Will Buy It!

Guest (Guest), September 20th, 2010, 4:06 pm

how much will it be? im definitely interested

Meh (Guest), September 20th, 2010, 4:36 pm

Id buy it

kotor, September 20th, 2010, 5:02 pm

It'll probably be between $15 and $20 US, not including shipping. I'm trying to figure the cheapest way to make it at good quality at the moment. If I can get a very specific number of buyers, I'll order in bulk and handle the selling myself. Otherwise, there's always print-on-demand sites, but they're normally more expensive. So we'll see.

Krin-Krea (Guest), September 20th, 2010, 5:39 pm

I'll buy, 15-20 dollars for some quality entertainment is a decent price in my book.

Remember Darth Mad?
Watch yourself, author. Madolin got her "cease and desist letter" when she tried selling tshirts of her "Darth Mad" character, because it moved from "Fair use" to "profiting from someone else's copyrighted property" when she decided to sell tshirts.

You could end up having the same problem with totally kotor if you start selling books for it, even in small quantities. Madolin never expected to sell that many tshirts either, but the moment she moved toward making profit off Lucasfilm properties, she got her "cease and desist" letter.

Make no mistake, I would buy a totally kotor book as much as I would buy a Darth Mad tshirt; I would love to support both of you on your creative endeavors. Just be careful.

Deuterium Dawn (Guest), September 24th, 2010, 12:14 pm

I'd be in, and @ the people asking about uk shipping, isn't the author from the uk?

G.S.P.C.G rep, September 24th, 2010, 9:11 pm

Yup, the author is from sunny England. And even though I don't need to say it, I'm game.
